Greetings from the Singapore Kindness Movement!

It’s 2014 and the annual Friend of Singa (FOS) Award is back. We would like to invite your school to join us for another year of exciting competition by championing kindness in the school community. In 2013, we saw the participation of 16 new schools, including 2 special schools that have come onboard, joining the 137 primary and secondary schools which have been actively participating in FOS.

About Friend of Singa

The annual FOS programme started in 1990 to recognise students who had gone the extra mile to show kindness. Since its revamp in 2009, students now have to complete a kindness project within their school communities over a period of six months to promote the essential values of kindness and graciousness. This move is deliberate to complement MOE’s values-in-action framework and the schools’ effort in inculcating courteous behaviour amongst its students.

The theme for FOS 2014 is “A                                        of kindness starts with one thoughtful me!”

Participating schools are invited to nominate up to eight students for this programme. These students and their teacher-in-charge would attend a ½ day interactive workshop in February 2014 to equip them with skills such as public speaking, critical and inventive thinking, project management, etc.  In additional, each approved proposal would also receive up to $150 funding to help kick start the kindness project.

Upon completion of the kindness project, these nominated students will be honoured as FOS Ambassadors. By giving the students such recognition, it will encourage their peers to emulate their fine example.

Friend of Singa is open to all primary, secondary, special schools and international schools.
